UPC ecoRacing presents its new 100% electric vehicle, the ecoRZ 2017
Last Wednesday, July 12th, UPC ecoRacing unveiled its new design for the 2017 season, in front of a crowded audience, following the recent victory for electric vehicles in Australia. The team looks to revalidate the title of Best Spanish Team obtained last season in Formula Student Spain, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in which will also take part this season the new ecoRZ 2017, and also with the objective to continue within the Top 10 of the Formula Student World Ranking - Electric.
During the event, all the technical innovations that the vehicle showed in all departments were presented, among which its new aerodynamics stands out. The ecoRZ 2017 is the first single-seater of the project that includes both front wing and rear wing in its aerodynamic package, after many years of previous study and internal evolution to make them as efficient as possible. The diffuser has also been optimized with the addition of new aerodynamic appendices. Only in this section, the team expects an improvement of around 3 s per lap.
In addition, the ecoRZ 2017 continues to rely on a 100% recyclable ABS bodywork in addition to optimized hybrid carbon fiber and aluminum rims, which contribute to a further reduction of the weight of the vehicle, reaching 210 kg. This adjusted weight allows the car to maintain the acceleration of its predecessor, which broke the record in the Acceleration test for a rear-wheel drive vehicle, with a time from 0 to 100 km/h of 2,6 s. After the official presentation of the car, the members of the team resolved all the doubts of the attendees, who also could enjoy a snack.
UPC ecoRacing thanks all the sponsors and collaborators for their support, essential for the success of the project, as well as all the attendees. It will not be until August, when the ecoRZ 2017 competes in Formula Student Spain 2017, that the car can be seen publicly again. Until then, the team will work on the latest preparations to meet the ambitious goals of this season.
