ecoRX: the first single-seater with four-wheel drive in Spain
The innovative single-seater from the Terrrassa team sets the start for a new era in the project
Last Wednesday, June 27, an electric four-wheel drive electric car, the ecoRX, was presented for the first time in the entire state. The new UPC ecoRacing vehicle presents numerous technical innovations with which the team hopes to achieve many successes in circuits around the world.
The main innovation of ecoRX is the total traction, with the incorporation of four electric motors, one directly on each wheel, adding a total power of 187 HP. This, added to the reduced weight of 190 kg, makes the car have a weight-to-power ratio of about 1 CV / kg. As a reference, cars usually do not reach a ratio of 0.1 CV / kg. In addition, each motor can act independently, improving the step by curve with the help of the so-called Vectoring torque, which controls the torque and the power delivered by each of the motors at every moment.
In the mechanical section, the ecoRX chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque that gives it 5 times more rigidity with a weight reduction of 10 kg compared to previous models. The car also has a complete aerodynamic package, which highlights the rear spoiler of three elements with DRS system, which reduces the aerodynamic drag of the car on the straights by 30%. Put another way, at a speed of 100 km / h, the aerodynamics would be able to generate enough force for the vehicle to roll through the roof.
The added technological difficulty of installing and controlling an engine on each wheel has not prevented the Egaren team from making further improvements to the rest of the systems, such as optimizing hybrid carbon and aluminum rims, reducing the weight by 25%. %. All the innovations of this new concept have been made with sustainability in mind, one of the basic pillars when designing and manufacturing the different parts of the car.
The team from Egarense will reveal next Wednesday to sponsors and collaborators, the university community and the rest of the people interested in the project their 100% electric single-seat evolution. This new concept that is presented, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the team, is the successor of the ecoRZ, developed during the last four seasons, which resulted in three cars that have taken the team to triumphs around the world.
UPC ecoRacing thus begins a new stage, 10 years after its birth, to remain linked to the world of sustainable mobility and facing this new season with the ambition to remain one of the pioneering teams of the State in this sector.
